A Chinese electrical equipment manufacturer has announced the serial production of a new generation of intelligent high-voltage disconnector. The development has passed a full cycle of type tests in accredited laboratories, including electrodynamic resistance, thermal stability and climatic tests, which confirms its readiness for use in the most demanding projects.
The intelligent high voltage disconnector represents an evolutionary step in the field of switchgear. Unlike traditional models, it combines the functions of reliable shutdown, diagnostics and residual resource prediction, which is especially important for backbone networks and facilities with increased requirements for uninterrupted power supply.
1. Versatility in voltage and applications
The new line covers all main voltage classes: 12, 24, 36, 110, 220 and 252 kV. Thanks to its modular design, the intelligent high-voltage disconnector can be adapted to various connection schemes - from single sections to complex bridge and multi-connection distribution devices.
Main applications include:
-
reconstruction of urban and rural substations with replacement of outdated equipment;
-
complete set of step-up substations for wind and solar power plants with a capacity of 10 to 500 MW;
-
equipping mining and processing plants, metallurgical plants and oil refineries;
-
supplies within the framework of international projects for the construction of power lines and cross-border energy corridors.
2. Increased service life and work in extreme conditions
One of the key design features was contacts with a multilayer silver coating applied by galvanic deposition with thickness control up to 12 microns. This ensures more than 10,000 switching cycles without loss of conductivity or overheating.
Body parts and supporting structures are treated with a zinc-aluminum coating with an additional polymer layer, which guarantees corrosion resistance for 25 years.

The intelligent high-voltage disconnector has confirmed its performance in the temperature range from –60 to +55 °C, at an altitude of up to 4000 m, with a humidity of 100% and dust levels of up to 10 mg/m³
3. Intelligent monitoring of equipment condition
The digital control loop includes a distributed system of sensors built into each phase and drive mechanism. The temperature of the contact connections (accuracy ±1 °C), the force on the drive shaft, the vibroacoustic signal for bearing diagnostics and the position of the contacts are recorded in real time with an accuracy of 0.1 mm.
All data is aggregated in the local controller and transmitted via IEC 61850 or Modbus protocols to the process control system, which allows the intelligent high-voltage disconnector to be integrated into any SCADA system. Switching to condition-based maintenance reduces operating costs by 30–40% and reduces the risk of outages.
4. Environmentally friendly without SF6 gas and compliant with ESG standards
The fundamental difference of the new model is the refusal to use SF₆ gas, whose greenhouse potential is 23,500 times higher than CO₂. Instead, air and vacuum insulation media are used, which is not only safe for the atmosphere, but also simplifies disposal of equipment at the end of its service life.
This solution makes the smart high voltage disconnector the preferred choice for projects financed by international development banks (EBRD, World Bank, AIIB), as well as for facilities seeking LEED and BREEAM green certifications.
5. Flexible delivery terms and technical support
The manufacturer offers several formats of interaction with customers:
-
Standard purchases — equipment from a warehouse or according to standard production times (from 30 working days) for network and contract organizations;
-
Engineering projects — adaptation to non-standard parameters (special grounding schemes, non-standard phase-to-phase distances, specific control systems);
-
OEM/Private Label — delivery under the customer’s brand with a full package of permits (certificates of conformity GOST, IEC 62271, TUV, UL if necessary).
The delivery package includes installation supervision, commissioning and on-site personnel training. The warranty period is 5 years with the possibility of extension to 10 years upon conclusion of a service contract.
6. Prospects for development and cooperation
The company's immediate plans include expanding the line to 330 and 500 kV classes, as well as developing a version with a wireless data transmission channel for remote, hard-to-reach objects. Negotiations are already underway with system operators in Russia, Kazakhstan, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The new generation of intelligent high-voltage disconnector opens up the possibility of creating fully digital substations with minimal human intervention in the switching and diagnostic processes. This is a step towards the energy system of the future - reliable, transparent and environmentally responsible.
