Model JN15-12-31.5 internal high voltage earthing switch is a key protective device in 12 kV distribution networks. Its primary function is to reliably ground high-voltage main circuits (such as busbars and cables) once they have been confirmed to be de-energized, ensuring vital personnel safety during equipment maintenance and repair.
The number “31.5” in the model designation indicates a rated short-time withstand current (thermal stable current) of up to 31.5 kA/4 s, which allows the switch to withstand high short-circuit currents. Usually the switch is installed separately and can be used in conjunction with high-voltage disconnectors of the GN19, GN30 and other series. A carefully designed mechanical interlocking device ensures a safe operating logic: “disconnector first, then earthing switch”, which completely eliminates the risk of dangerous errors when live earthing is switched on.
The structure consists of a base, a support insulator, a conductive blade section and a fixed contact. When activated via a drive mechanism (manual or electric), the conductive blade is securely connected to the grounding system. The JN15 series, with its robust design, high conductivity and reliable locking, has become an indispensable protection element in medium voltage indoor metal cabinets such as KYN28.
